RNC 2008: It's Still Palin, Palin, Palin

As of Tuesday, the talk at the GOP convention was still Palin, Palin, Palin (via WashPo, NY Times and the New Orleans Times-Picayune). Obama wants nothing to do with rumors and news concerning Palin's 17-year-old daughter's pregnancy, reminding his supporters that his mother was 18 when he was conceived (via CNN). While this storm started in lefty blogland, NRO's Byron York and Pajamas Media continue to keep the story alive. Andrew Sullivan says: McCain started it. Both Huffington Post and Drudge Report have pictures of the Palin baby's daddy.  Also a concern, Palin's alleged membership of separatist group, Alaska Independence Party. ABC's Political Punch confirms  she was at the 1994 AIP convention, but McCain campaign surrogates like the Weekly Standard and NRO play damage control  by claiming she has been a registered Republican since 1982. But that misses the point, says Joe Klein at Time's Swampland blog. Klein quotes a former AIP's secretary who says McCain's efforts appear to her to be like, "a cat covering up crap in its litter box." TPM Muckraker digs up that Todd Palin was a registered member of AIP until 2002.

Other revelations: Bring It On digs up proof that Palin lied about her trip to Ireland. And she was a no-show at an anti-abortion event in St. Paul prompting Phyllis Schlafly's wrath: "I think this is clearly somebody in the McCain campaign who doesn't understand where the votes are coming from." Even so, 69% of GOP voters believe the choice was a good one (thanks Rasmussen Report).
