Fashion Week New York
It's fashion week in NYC--here's what trendy bloggers liked and didn't.
THE CLOTHES: That's at least partly what Fashion Week's about, right? Omiru pointed out trends among the various collections, including lace and oversized vests and the colors chocolate brown, bright orange, and yellow green. Threadtrend loved Rodarte's collection: "I want to believe in the Rodarte future where there's impeccable draping, fishnet leggings and glamorously tattered clothes like this. Oh, and lots of platforms. Lots." The Shophound analyzed the "diversity quotient" for each collection, and thought Marc Jacobs was the high point of the week: "Jacobs delivered was what anyone who regularly attends fashion shows anticipates but doesn't receive often enough: a Fashion Moment, the kind you can feel in the air and in the breathless anticipation of the audience." Fashionista pointed out a Jill Stuart model's wardrobe malfunction, i.e. boob slippage: "All the photographers (except one weird one who also had a video camera) stopped shooting, and the crowd kind of gave an 'Ohh' and politely looked away."
THE SWAG: The Shophound also has a rundown of everything in this year's press bag, including "10 oz. bottle Bawls Guarana soda" and "Pocket guide to Seoul, Korea." Fashion Pulse revealed their ten favorite freebies. W Magazine's Editors Blog
found some of the freebies strange--like a "ball of yarn and knitting
sticks (or cat toys, per a certain editor) from Ports 1961"--and wished
there were more free snacks.
NY Mag's The Cut said the Alexander Wang tank top was the best freebie:
"While many of the fashion elite hardly glance at gift-bag offerings,
the front-row attendees at Wang's show have been sporting his top everywhere. In the last four days this white tank has been spotted on a slew of editors, buyers, and stylists."
THE REST: Even Google got in on the action, launching 29 new themes for your iGoogle homepage by designers including Gucci, Burberry, and Vera Wang. Marketing Pilgrim points out that one of the themes is designed by Gnarls Barkley: "You too can enjoy an iGoogle theme from the guy that turned his grandma's window drapes into a suit!" Racked has a live Fashion Week Twitter feed. Pamela Pekerman is "heading to meeting w clara kasavina sporting new bk suede flats w blue grommets from sigerson morrison 4 target get them!"
