The Fashion Debates

A lot has already been said about Sarah Palin and Joe Biden's debate performances last night. But how about their fashion decisions? "I should have guessed Palin would wear a skirt of some sort--she clearly loves her legs!" writes The Ladies' Paradise. "They were showcased last night in a suit whose skirt was too tight." And her flag pin: "Like Palin herself, the pin is brassy, down-market and hard to miss." Think Progress notes the pin was "about the size of a child's fist." NashVogue thinks her "classic black suit with a modern cut" "really shows off the thin waist of our vice presidential candidate. Second, the sheen of the fabric adds a feminine softness to stark black of the suit." On Palin's unraveling French braid, The Pipeline writes, "Well, you know, the liberal media on the Huffington Post there thought it added some 'pizazz' and impact to her outfit there. Yeah, it was better than the ol' beehive too. But ... it sorta reminded us of the ma-and-pop-hocky-mom-joe-sixpack style you don't want in a President executive branch maverick. Say it ain't so."

As for Joe Biden: He too wore a flag pin, but it was a lot smaller than Palin's. Appearance-wise, bloggers were concerned with his hair. "The best part of CNN's coverage last night was the ladies maxing out on approval for Biden in his opening statement," writes Gawker, "until the shot switched to a view of his bald spot and terrible plugs, at which point support of undecided women plummeted." "Biden's hair is really weird," writes Blogging on Meds. "Not just now, but always." Frankie's Hideout, however, thinks "he's one of the few men that look better with Hair Plugs, even if it does make him look like Thurston Howell's playboy brother."

So who won? The Stank Nasty puts it this way: "According to a CNN poll, 87% of respondents believe Biden's hairplugs are more qualified for the job in DC than is Palin's designer eyewear, and 51% think he won the debate."
