Election 2008: Last Debate Preview

Before the second debate, McCain's camp jumped the gun with "McCain Wins Debate" ads up hours before the debate began. This time, it was Obama's campaign's turn, accidentally emailing debate talking points to reporters (via PoliticalPunch). Matt Drudge says the memo "oddly mirrors much of the main press analysis," while Gawker says "Shock: Obama Campaign Doing Job." For a pre-debate distraction, Norway-based African Press International reported that Michelle Obama ranted against "American white racists." RedState says Michelle "admits Obama is not American" in the interview. "Wow! Talk about a red-hot temper !" says NewsBusters; RadarSite says Michelle "came out swinging--bribing actually." The Corner picked up the phone and asked the Obama campaign directly, which responded, "The answer is no. It's not real." The campaign told PoliticalPunch the interview was "100% bogus."

Meanwhile, Obama is crushing McCain in early voting, according to FiveThirtyEight. Over 500,000 early votes have been cast in Georgia, and in Cobb County, "not a single black voter abandoned the long line," according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. MyDD speculates that strong early Dem turnout will cause likely McCain voters to stay at home on Nov. 4.  Colin Powell appears ready to endorse a candidate (via HuffPo), and it must be for Obama because FoxNews has already begun calling him "Hip-Hop Dancing Colin Powell."

As for the final debate tonight, McCain says he'll whip Obama's "you know what" (via HuffPo). TheSwamp says "McCain must walk a tightrope" to question Obama's fitness to be president without turning off voters. CapitolWatchBlog says "McCain will finally go for the jugular, which will backfire." The WashingtonIndependent notices that McCain attacked Obama's ACORN association this morning on Orlando television, speculating it will be part of his debate strategy. BuzzFeed says the debate will be Batman vs. Penguin. TPM asks, "Will McCain man up?" RealClearPolitics has a roundup of other debate previews and opinions. Rich Lowery at NRO says McCain will likely be "pretty aggressive, in a nothing-left-to-lose, not-much-time-left mode."
