Philadelphia Freedom: The Curse is Over
"I'm half drunk, half in disbelief, and half dreaming," says The 700 Level, a blog named after the rowdiest section in the defunct stadium where the Philadelphia Phillies won their previous World Series, in 1980. They got another last night, winning Game 5 over the Tampa Bay Rays at home to clinch the Series 4 games to 1. For a while last night the teams traded one run at a time, with the occasional runner cut down out at the plate. "This really is like watching a shootout in the NHL," liveblogged Attytood. Red Sox blog Sox1Fan says Rays manager Joe Maddon blew it by not putting in ace reliever David Price. Afterward, tons of fans "must have decided to email their grandmas because the Intertubes are running so slow you'd think Ted Stevens had gotten his Hulk-Tie stuck in them again," said Booman Tribune. This morning...
Phillies blogs are mostly spechless. Phillies Nation simply says, in huge type, WE WIN! Phillies Win! repeats (normally much more verbose) Tenured Radical. Philadelphia Will Do simply has video of longtime announcer Harry Kalas' radio call of the 9th inning. Political site The Corner concludes: "I love that the game was over before bedtime." Deadspin (a national sports blog infiltrated by Phils fan) calls it "The Night the Boos Died," and one commenter to a post at the site titled "Yessssssssssssssssssssss" confesses to listening to Journey's "Don't Stop Believin" on iTunes 45 times last night. Congrats to the Phillies, says gracious Raysblog DRays Bay, which quickly gets busy with a 2009 plan for the Rays..
