Politics 2008: Cheney Indicted, Hillarystate

clip_image002A south Texas grand jury has indicted Dick Cheney and Alberto Gonzalez (via Brownsville Herald). Will Bunch has the background on the federal immigration facility at the center of the indictment. Gun Toting Liberal recommends expanding the investigation until "very famous politicians are behind the bars they deserve," but TPM shoots the story down, saying the case might be "entertaining but not for the reasons the headlines might suggest." As the GOP meltdown continues, WaPo's Kathleen Parker suggests the Republicans will "overlook or dismiss the gorilla in the pulpit." Washington Monthly thinks the GOP "would be wise to take Parker's advice seriously [but is] likely to do the opposite." Right Wing Watch says Parker is "inviting more hate mail," and Raw Story predicts that right wing bloggers will pretend to "never heard of her before her infamous Palin column."

Jonah Goldberg calls Parker's column "quasi-bigotry ... bravery-on-the-cheap;" Right Wing News says Parker is "patronizing ... and lacks solutions;" and The Anchoress blasts what she calls Parker's "staggering bigotry and preening martyrdom." Tbogg at Fire Dog Lake says times like these make him want to donate to NRO, "it's like you're paying for the drinks, and the nuts at the bar are free." Sadly, No! would like to know if NRO will accept credit default swaps.

image Meanwhile, the prospect of Hillary at the State Department has the chattering classes abuzz: David Broder thinks Sen. Clinton is "a force for good, but not at State;" Commentary says "America needs Hillary ... to prevent Obama from following his instincts;" and Maureen Dowd, referring to Bill, says, "Two for the price of two." Politico says Bill will have to give up foreign income for Hillary, and Bloomberg says Hillary will have to pay off her $7mil debt before taking the post. Maybe that's why Ted Kennedy is keeping the door open for Hillary in the Senate (via LA Times). Taylor Marsh speculates that this "is not what HRC had in mind." Michelle Malkin snarks that it's all part of the ObaHillary Morph.
