Butterball Goes Web 2.0 and Other Turkey Tips
Whether you're roasting a turkey for the first or thirtieth time, the process can be overwhelming. This year Butterball's "Turkey Talk-Line" is going Web 2.0, allowing consumers to "sign up for text messages that give thawing reminders and temperature guidelines, read blogs written by 'seasoned home economists,' participate in live chats or watch how-to videos at Butterball.com," reports AdAge. Branding Unbound hopes the service will, "with luck, will result in far fewer spoiled Thanksgiving feasts." And even if you, like Todd Kliman at NPR's Monkey See, hate Butterball-brand birds--"Butterball: It's a little like saying you're swearing off cars because all they do is get into accidents and break down. I was a turkey hater, too, before I was turned on to an heirloom variety a few years ago known as Red Bourbon, one of about five remaining breeds of turkey that precede the arrival of the white man. A few bites in, I vowed never to so much as look at a Butterball again"--you may still be able to glean some helpful general tips from their site.
Need some more turkey advice? From the Newsroom reminds you that "turkey should never be thawed on the counter, stuffing your turkey is not recommended, and you should not eat food that has been left out sitting for more than two hours," and offers other safety tips. Zesty Cook has ten tips on keeping the turkey juicy, including "DO NOT go poking the turkey with a knife or fork to check for done ness. You will lose valuable juice." And speaking of valuable juice, Eat. Drink. Better helps you match wine with turkey. Watch this space for more Thanksgiving dinner coverage next week!
