Bloggers' Guide to Super Bowl XLIII
Conventional wisdom says Super Bowl 43 will come down to how well the hardcore Steelers D can contain the Cardinals' insane passing attack (QB Kurt Warner, WRs Anquan Boldin and Larry Fitzgerald). Voice of the Cardinals insists Warner was the real NFL MVP this regular season, not Peyton Manning. Blog 'n' Gold says Steeler great Jerome Bettis has predicted a 24-21 win for his old team, But even he says "if the game goes into the 30s, the Cardinals win." Yikes. The videogame analysis agrees: in a hard-fought Madden 09 simulation, Pittsburgh holds off a late Arizona surge to win 28-24, says Steelers Depot. But there are other factors at play. Cards blog Revenge of the Birds is stoked that the redbirds have rediscovered their running game, not so much because of any real great running but because it's helped them control the clock and wear down defenses.
Behind the Steel Curtain thinks despite the hype about the Cardinals passing attack, the game may come down to the Steelers offense versus the Arizona D. "I still say if we can run the ball, it's over." DC Steeler Nation channels the spirit (and imitates the voice) of departed former Steelers announcer Myron Cope to bash the Cardinals mascot for disrespecting the Terrible Towel and says "Dis game'll be more abaut first dawns den yong bombs."
The Steelers are favored, but Steeler-fan concerns? "The Steelers' scoring defense has been significantly worse in the playoffs compared to the regular season, while Arizona's has been significantly better," notes Pittsburgh Steelers Fanatic. "What I'm not yet convinced of is how we will stop Larry Fitzgerald. He's a monster and I'm afraid," says 5 Golden Rings. Steelers Today recalls that in 2007 the Cardinals beat the Steelers 21-14 and worries these two teams haven't changed very much."
