First-Time Mom at 66
While many women her age are already grandmas, British 66-year-old Elizabeth Adeney is about to have her first baby. The news, plus the fact that Adeney went to the Ukraine to get IVF because the UK (and US) won't give the treatment to women over 50, has bloggers in a tizzy. "I personally would rather see a successful woman who has the maturity to take care of a child do it before a woman with six kids already and no job! Still, as one person points out, Adeney will be 85-years old when her child is a teenager," writes Blisstree. "What kind of mother-daughter bonding are they going to do? Visit mom in the nursing home day?" wonders Crazy Days and Nights "Just because one can do something, doesn't mean one should," writes MommyQ. But some bloggers are just mad that other bloggers are mad: "When a ninety year old man can still make his organ work, he is lauded for his manhood," says Deep Thought. "But when a divorced woman, even a successful career woman who can certainly afford (and presumably will afford) to make sure that the child will be cared for in the event of her death, becomes pregnant all of a sudden she is called selfish and foolish." Regardless, "Get ready to feel about 80 when the baby doesn't sleep," warns Whoa, Momma! What do you think? Let us know in the comments.
