Flu Shot Gets Political, Celebs Say No Thanks
Though the CDC recommends that many groups of people receive flu shots, some well-known figures are very publicly refusing to receive them. Glenn Beck said he'd do "the exact opposite" of what the government recommends, while Rush Limbaugh said, "I am not going to take it, precisely because you are now telling me I must"--but this isn't a political issue, says Booster Shots, it's "a science versus nonsense issue." Meanwhile, on his show, Bill Maher questioned letting someone stick 'a disease into your arm,' wrongly implying that the flu shot contains a live virus. He also tweeted: "If u get a swine flu shot ur an idiot."
Of course, there's also craziness in the opposite direction...some companies are selling fake swine flu vaccines online, reports dBTechno. The Daily Kos covers some of the political skepticism about the vaccine. "In the Senate, the topic has accomplished the rare feat of uniting Democrats and Republicans," reports The Hill. "Members of both parties are promoting vaccinations regardless of the rhetoric."
