Early Avatar Reviews: It's Really Good!

image James Cameron's Avatar, a film nearly five years and $230 million in the making, premiered last night in London. Fox has now lifted the embargo on reviews after some early leaks, and the verdict is in: The movie is good! "Really much, much better than expected," writes the Guardian. /Film has an "FAQ" about the film--the answer to "Are the FX realistic?" is "For the most part, yes. Many shots of the Na'vi or Avatars would pass as photoreal, and that's despite their inherently exaggerated and stylised design, all Tezuka eyes and slim-Jim cat-monkey physique. The geography, flora, fauna and overall background work is routinely within a hair's breadth of utter perfection and should not be faulted, even though a small handful of shots look very disappointing in the context of the whole film." Film School Rejects "can't imagine someone walking out of a screening of this film and not being in awe." "Cameron has succeeded with flying colors at creating never-before-seen action spectacle married to a powerful story with characters you care about," raves MarketSaw. "The film is filled with applause-worthy moments that gave me goosebumps."
