Forget Red State Blue State politics. More interesting is whether you're from an Android or Apple iOS state - and what it says about you. "It looks like Android tends to lead the way in the western United States, while the southeast is pretty smartphone neutral," writes Gadget Lab. "The midwest and northeast seemingly prefer phones of the Apple variety, except for New York, which is all-business according to its Blackberry dominance." The report data comes from a study by Jumptap, a mobile ad network. Interestingly, Washington state -- home to Microsoft and its Windows Phone 7 operating system -- leans Android, notes Geekwire. And California, home to Apple and Google, leans Android.

Notes Dan Frommer at SplatF: "it's interesting that New York is still BlackBerry-dominated, despite the huge number of iPhones and Android devices in NYC. Perhaps it's because BlackBerries have been part of the culture for so long that they're considered the default phone here. But how'd they take over the Dakotas, then?"
