Best in Blogs: LOST and Avatar Are Huge, But the Super Bowl Rules
OK, so the final season of LOST is under way, and you either totally dig what people are saying or think they're hallucinating when they blog, "Was anyone expecting LOST to evolve into two parallel universes because of the bomb exploding?" The Academy of Oscar Nominations to Mention in Movie Ads came out with ten Best Picture nominees this year instead of five. "The idea was that the expanded list would bring in pictures that traditionally don't get nominated," says the Stone Report. "Of course, no one is satisfied." And Avatar got some much needed global worship this week when it even more officially became the top box-office movie ever ("Ring the bell: Avatar has knocked out Titanic," says Get the Big Picture) and was nominated in nine Oscar categories including best picture and best director. Techland thinks 2010's Oscar battle, Avatar vs. Up in the Air, is reminiscent of 1978, "the year of Star Wars versus Annie Hall, when a groundbreaking technological achievement went up against a reserved and droll romance."
