Guest Top Ten List

Daren Spence owns Wearetea.com, an online and bricks and mortar tea business attempting to do things a little differently. His previous life as an accountant did little to prepare him for starting a tea business but he and his wife decided to pursue their passion for tea and have a go regardless. They opened the doors of their tea shop near St. Paul's Cathedral in London in 2007. He also writes (sporadically) about the trials and tribulations of running a tea business in his blog Teaconomy - Tales from the Teashop.

Note from Daren about this list: I selected the following blogs because tea has become big business and as such tea companies purporting to be your friend are actually trying to sell you something. The following blogs (in alphabetical order) simply celebrate tea in all of its slightly quirky glory. Enjoy!

Top 10 Tea Blogs That Aren't Trying To Sell You Something

A Good Place for a Cup of Tea and a Think

This is less of a tea blog and more a homage to Russell’s favourite places to drink tea and to think. This blog is the least pretentious tea-related blog that you will ever come across and has some great commentary and images of the places Russell manages to drink tea and think. Good lunch-time viewing.

Ancient Tea Horse Road

Bill is just a guy from Minnesota who has a penchant for Pu-erh (a typed of aged tea). In fact he loves the stuff so much he thought he’d blog about it. The result is an entire blog dedicated to Pu-erh, the most mystical of teas. Well worth a read.

Another Tea Blog

This is simply an honest tea blog by an honest guy who likes drinking and writing about tea. It’s a great source of information for any budding tea aficionado and the photography isn’t bad either. I think he may have actually stopped updating but there is enough in the archive for even the most avid reader.

Cha Dao

This blog is dedicated to the musings of a number of tea aficionados with a shared love of all things tea. Although the blog is undoubtedly accomplished in terms of depth of knowledge, it is more a forum for the discussion on the joy and beauty of tea and is nowhere near as stuffy as some of the other more high-brow tea blogs.

Gongfu Girl

These ladies have an encyclopaedic knowledge of tea combined with enthusiasm in abundance and a passion for storytelling. This blog should leave you informed and amused, which is no mean feat. And from what I can gather the girls have no affiliation whatsoever to a tea company.

More Tea, Vicar?

Fran is a London-based tea lover, cake lover, and bookseller and writes about her three main loves on her blog: More Tea, Vicar? Fran’s blog includes various tea quotes and tea-related literature together with some great images of the places she has visited on her travels and some very desirable tea-related products. This is more of a lifestyle blog with a heavy emphasis on tea but is still a good read.

Multiple Infusions

A monthly breakdown of what tea Lewis is drinking and what tea-related implements he is using. The blog includes some great images and has links to most other worthy tea blogs. From what I can gather, a completely independent and transparent blog on making, drinking, tasting and appreciating tea. More like this please.

Steepology Tea Blog

Rachel is not a prolific blogger but the blogs she posts are entertaining and tea-related. She mixes general blogging on tea news with some tea reviews thrown in for good measure. An interesting read although maybe too long a wait between blogs for some. She also needs to work harder at keeping ads off the blog.

Tea Appreciation Society

This is a blog by a collective of designers, writers, artists, philosophers, photographers and board riders with a common appreciation of tea. Tea helps them to think, create, grow, love, contemplate and remain a collective. I could not agree more. Check it out.

The Half Dipper

Should you wish to read a blog that gets under the skin of tea in a way that, as far as I’m aware, no other tea blog does then this is for you. Hobbes takes tea knowledge to the next level and captures the complexity of tea, experiments with the affect of the ageing process on tea, and appears to have a network of friends doing much the same. Not exactly light reading but I had to include it because of its unfaltering dedication to tea.
